Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: July 2026

Chumi provides general pet information only — it is not veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If your pet seems unwell, always consult a qualified vet. In an emergency, contact an emergency clinic immediately.

Is Chumi a replacement for my vet?

No. Chumi is your first line before the vet — it helps you describe symptoms, understand how worried to be, and keep organised records to show your vet. Urgency guidance in Chumi is deliberately cautious, and serious signs always point you to a real clinic.

How does the AI consultation work?

You describe what's going on (and can attach a photo). Chumi's assistant asks vet-style follow-up questions and, with your pet's profile and tracked history for context, gives general guidance with a clear urgency level — from "monitor at home" to "go to an emergency clinic now". Emergency detection uses a fixed safety rule system that the AI cannot override.

What are messages / credits, and what's free?

Each AI message uses one credit. Every account gets a daily free allowance plus a one-time welcome bonus of bonus messages. Chumi Pro removes the daily limit for everyday use (a fair-use ceiling applies). Your current balance is always shown in the app header and itemised in Profile → Membership & Billing.

Can my partner or helper log things for my pet?

Yes — family sharing. From your pet's Family screen, invite someone by email. A carer can view records and log day-to-day care (feeds, walks, tasks); a viewer can only view. They see the invitation in their inbox and must accept it; you can remove a member at any time.

How do I share records with my vet?

Three ways: share a single consultation report as a PDF; share the full health book PDF (vaccinations, activity, check-ins, document index) from the Medical Profile; or create a secure share link with an expiry you choose — you can see how many times it was viewed and revoke it early.

What happens to documents I upload?

Vaccine cards and vet documents are stored privately in your account. Chumi reads vaccination entries it can see verbatim (names and dates) so you can add booster reminders in one tap — always verify against the original before relying on a date. If a document was read wrongly, you can re-run the extraction.

Is my pet's data private?

Your data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) with encryption in transit. Consultation messages are processed by Google's Gemini AI to generate replies. We don't sell your data. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

Can I export or delete my data?

Both, from inside the app. Profile → export gives you your full data as a file. Deleting your account (Profile → Delete Account) permanently removes your account and your pets' records — see Data deletion for details.

Why didn't the walk tracker record my route?

Background GPS needs the "Allow all the time" location permission on Android — the app asks when you start your first walk. If the route has gaps, check Settings → Apps → Chumi → Permissions → Location, and make sure battery saver isn't restricting the app.

Why does the app say a photo couldn't be analysed?

The AI needs a clear, well-lit photo of the subject (the food bowl, the stool, the affected area). Blurry or unrelated photos can't be assessed. Note that a used credit may not be refunded if the photo doesn't show the subject — retake and check before analysing.

How do I cancel Chumi Pro?

Subscriptions are managed by Google Play: Play Store → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Chumi. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro stays active until the end of the paid period.

Something's broken — how do I reach you?

In the app: Profile → Contact / Report a bug (it pre-fills your app version so we can help faster), or email chumiapp.support@gmail.com directly.
